Lockland is proud to welcome Dr. Matt M. Bishop as the new Superintendent of Lockland Local Schools! The Board approved Dr. Bishop’s contract on Monday, May 20, 2013 and he will officially begin his position on August 1, 2013. Terry Gibson, Lockland Board of Education president, commented, “Dr. Bishop has a strong record of success as well as a sincere interest in Lockland Schools and community. We look forward to working with Dr. Bishop and believe his leadership will have an extremely positive impact on our schools.” The entire Lockland staff will have the opportunity to meet Dr. Bishop during his scheduled visit on Wednesday, May 29, 2013.
Dr. Bishop began his educational career in 1997 at the Twin Valley Community Local School District in West Alexandria, Ohio as a middle school teacher. He later served as the district technology coordinator and five years as Twin Valley South Middle School principal. In 2005, he returned to his alma mater becoming Carlisle High School's principal. During his tenure, the high school received seven Excellent ratings from the Ohio Department of Education, a national award from High Schools That Work as a Top 100 School, as well as the organization’s highly acclaimed Gold Award in 2009.
Dr. Bishop is very active in his community and was elected to the Carlisle Local School District's Board of Education in 1999 where he served one term from 2000-2003.
Dr. Bishop received his Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1996. He received his Master of Education degree from the University of Dayton in 2000 and completed requirements for a Superintendent license soon after. In 2009, he received his Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership degree from the University of Dayton. His dissertation title was "A Study of Perceived General, Intrinsic and Extrinsic Job Satisfaction Among Public School Superintendents in Southwestern Ohio."
Dr. Bishop is thirty-nine years old. His wife, Heather, is a teacher at Grigsby Intermediate School in Carlisle. The Bishops have one daughter, Carlie, who will be in third grade next school year.
