Laptops for Lockland Learners

Powered by Sprint

The Lockland Local School District has partnered with Sprint to utilize laptops for grades 3-12 during the 2014-15 school year. We are very excited about this opportunity as this will be the beginning of our 1:1 technology program. This is at NO COST to the district taxpayers.

Since the Lockland School District is designated as a 90%+ Free and/or Reduced Lunch School by the federal government, we are able to receive our communications at a 90% discount. This allows us to partner with Sprint to bring the technology to the school and home for a fraction of what it would normally cost our taxpayers via the K-12 CNS Connect and Campus Manager wireless network. We will begin with two grade levels…our 7th and 8th grade students. As the implementation proceeds, we will add more and more grade levels until every student from grades 3-12 will have access to a laptop at school and home.

Parents must complete an agreement prior to receiving the laptop for use during the 2014-15 school year.

One misconception with laptops is that all future purchases are unnecessary…that the laptop will solve all instructional problems. While this opportunity is exciting, we will still need to invest in supportive technology to engage students in learning. This is one of the areas we would be using resources from our November School Operating Levy. As we move towards having all instruction via the laptop through electronic textbooks (eTextbooks) and online learning portals, we must be able to purchase those resources for our students. It is a very exciting time and we are pleased that we can begin offering these opportunities for our students.

If you have any questions about the laptop roll out, please contact your child’s teacher, principal, or our Director of Education, Mr. David Bartoe.
