Third grade has been busy reading, discussing, and writing about literature. We began by reviewing story elements (characters, setting, events, problem, solution, and theme). We continued by reading a CCSS (Common Core State Standards) exemplar text, The Stories That Julian Tells by Ann Cameron. To prepare for one of Julian’s stories, “Because of Figs”, we sampled dried figs. We weren’t too thrilled with the taste, but we liked the Fig Newtons we got when we answered questions about the story! Now we are working with the last story that Julian tells to readers: “Gloria Who Might Be My Best Friend”. We will be identifying the story elements, practicing sequencing, answering questions by referring to the text, comparing and contrasting stories, and more! Third grade is off to a great start!
