Superintendent's Message
FROM THE DESK OF DONNA HUBBARD:
Lockland School District proudly offers our resident and open enrollment students a unique educational experience promoting small town values, rich in tradition. Lockland provides a private-school approach with a “small school, big experience” flavor for public school students. Lockland students value their opportunity to receive individual attention in our small class size school environment. With a 100% highly qualified teaching staff, our district proudly holds a 98% graduation rate. Lockland High School received the Bronze Medal for Achievement and was named in a recent U.S. News and World Report article as one of the best high schools in America in January of 2008.
Lockland School District has implemented a paradigm shift in philosophy that is not present in most local school districts. Each curricular area offers innovative teaching methods that not only enhance opportunities for Lockland students, but serve as models for other school districts in urban areas. The school district places high expectations on students, administrators, and staff. Program and curriculum are based on a conviction that students have a great and often unrealized potential. Lockland prepares students to make the transition to adulthood by helping them determine what they choose as a career. Our staff guides students toward development of the skills and the self-confidence that they will need to accomplish their goals.
Lockland students are required to pursue vigorous, academic programs, which encourages students to work at their highest levels. Administrators, teachers, and other staff members are required to remain current on educational advances and to initiate innovative, challenging, and stimulating classroom programs and activities.
Teachers and administrators analyze issues to anticipate future social and economic needs of students. A strong curriculum in English, social studies, mathematics, science, computers/business, foreign language, and the fine arts is provided. Post secondary opportunities at local universities and vocational career tech courses (at the Great Oaks Vocational Campuses) are provided to our juniors and seniors.
Opportunities for leadership, public service, and entrepreneurship are integrated into the programs, both during and after regular school hours. The school district prepares students for the academic demands of being able to managing time effectively allowing participation in extra curricular activities. Students are respected for their cultural background and diversity.
The villages of Lockland and Arlington Heights exhibit pride in their district that provides a wonderful educational experience for our students and for the future leaders of the communities.
