3/8/18 Board of Education Meeting has a Location Change

The Lockland Board of Education will be meeting in the Board of Education Office for their March 8, 2018 meeting.  Time remains the same, 6:00PM

The Lockland Board of Education is Accepting Applications for Vacant Seat:

The Lockland Board of Education is currently accepting applications to fill a vacant seat due to the resignation of Misty Cromer, effective on February 22, 2018. The new position will be a 22-month unexpired term that will begin immediately upon appointment and will run until December 31, 2019.

Ohio Revised Codes and our Board policy states: Any vacancy will be filled by the Board at its next regular or special meeting not earlier than 10 days, nor later than 30 days after the vacancy occurs.

The Board is seeking interested applicants to interview. The Board will then decide on the replacement.

The Board made a decision at their meeting on Thursday, February 8, 2018 to start the application process to fill the vacancy. They will begin accepting applications immediately until Wednesday, February 28 at 4:00 p.m.

Interviews will be held during executive session at the Board of Education’s regular meeting scheduled for Thursday March 8, 2018.  Once an application is submitted, the applicant will be contacted by the Board to set up an interview time. Because of the time constraints imposed by the law, the Board will conduct interviews and make a decision on the candidates at the March 8, 2018 meeting.

If a majority decision isn’t agreed upon by the board, within 30 days of the vacancy, the power to fill the vacant Board seat is given to the Hamilton County Probate Court.

Summer Opportunity from the University of Cincinnati

We have a new unique opportunity for HS students this summer – maybe you could get this info out to your schools. We have a grant from the NSA to teach an Arabic language and culture summer class to high school seniors, rising seniors, or rising juniors who have a minimum GPA of 3.5. It’s 5 credit hours, fully funded by the NSA grant, so there’s no cost to the family nor the district. Students don’t have to be admitted to UC – the course will be transferrable to other institutions.

There is more info here, including contact info for the professor running the program: http://www.artsci.uc.edu/departments/rll/summer_arabic.html

  • Students are not expected to be here if they do not have an exam scheduled.  However, all attendance policies are still in place; therefore, we will need a parent phone call if a student is going to be late or absent and parents will have to come in to sign their students out if they are leaving earlier than the end of the last exam bell of any exam day.  (Because the exam schedule follows the regular bell schedule, there should not be very many students who qualify for early dismissal.)

Welcome Back to School!
Dear Parents / Guardians: It's hard to believe but it's that time of the year again - the beginning of a new school year. Welcome back! And while you aren't part of the teaching staff you are just as important to your children's education as we are.

Your children receive the best education when you and our dedicated teachers work as a team. It's a parents enthusiasm, support and involvement that inspires children to do their best; and a teacher's ability to teach what they need to learn. Together we can achieve wonderful things. There's a lot of excitement ahead of us, including new teachers to meet, new books to read, new friends to meet and new skills to master...and  we look forward to you sharing in those exciting times. As parents ourselves we know how fast time goes by. One year your child's in 1st grade and seemingly in the blink of an eye they're in middle school, or in their senior year of high school for that matter. In closing, we encourage you to fully embrace the moment and urge you to to take the time from your busy schedule to become familiar with our school, as well as create a homework-friendly home environment that will allow your children to excel.

Thank you for your commitment to your child's education and we look forward to seeing you on August 22, 2012.

Sincerely,
The Staff of Lockland Schools

The State of our Facilities

As we have mentioned in the past several newsletters we have a beautiful, historic building that is a regional icon. However, behind the walls the building has a variety of concerns. Our plumbing, wiring and mechanical systems are decades old. We are in a place where fixing these concerns can become extremely costly to tax payers.

Prior to making any decisions, we would like your input on these choices that could affect the community. Please take this quick survey. It can be taken on your cell phone, on a computer or you can come to the building and take it on a piece of paper.
