Lockland students demonstrated self-confidence and personal responsibility at the district’s recent student-led conferences. Student-led conferencing is a way for students to be “in control” of their own learning. Students facilitate formal conferences with their parents by sharing goals, work samples, test results, as well as strengths and weaknesses. Teachers assisted students in preparing for the conferences by helping them create portfolios and data folders. During the conferences, students shared their reflection sheets with parents along with their personal goals and strengths. Students were given the opportunity to present their work in each class, reflect on their behavior and attitude, and discuss ways to improve various behaviors. Parents were amazed at their students’ presentations. Teachers were proud of students as they took the ownership for their learning and their progress.

During the conferences, parents who participated in our school satisfaction survey in the computer labs were given a ticket to the Parent Hospitality Room in the cafeteria. Parents were treated to free pizza and were given an opportunity to be pampered. Complements of Spaaah, parents were given free massages and free back alignment screenings. Make-up experts were available for make-up tips and free hand massages. Tables were available for registering to vote, purchase arts and crafts, and banking information and handouts by U. S. Bank.

Lockland School District has set goals this year to engage parents and to make the schools inviting. Each quarter some special events will be held to welcome parents and to involve them in their children’s educational experience. Thank you parents for attending our Fall Student-led Conferences!
