March 13, 2020

Dear Lockland Parent/Guardian:

On March 12, Governor Mike DeWine ordered the closure of all schools throughout the state of Ohio after the close of school on Monday for three weeks to reduce the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

Lockland Local School District will be closed from Tuesday, March 17, 2020 through April 3, 2020 for this state-mandated closure. Spring break will remain as scheduled from April 6-13. Students are scheduled to return to school on Tuesday, April 14.

It is very important that students come to school on Monday, March 16 to collect resources and guidance from their teachers for the break. Students will also receive five days of breakfast and lunch at the end of the school day for the remainder of the week.

Closing school includes ALL school and all non-school sponsored activities. We understand the disappointment and inconvenience that these postponements and cancellations may cause to our families, students, staff, and the community. We are responding to the State of Ohio’s emergency order to slow the spread of the virus by cancelling large public gatherings.

Here are district plans in place in response to the current guidelines on COVID-19:

School Events

We have cancelled all indoor and outdoor events and field trips through April 3, 2020.  As the situation continues to evolve, the district will re-evaluate and communicate any decisions with families as soon as they are reached.

Athletic Events

All spring scrimmages and practices for the district are cancelled effective Friday, March 13-April 3, 2020. Coaches will be in touch with their athletes as our athletic director receives additional guidance from the OHSAA next week.

Medicine Pick Up

All medication can be picked up by parents/guardians at the school from Nurse Jen on Monday, March 16, 2020 between the hours of 8:30-3:30 p.m.  After Monday, arrangements will have to be made with the school for pick up at a later date.

Alternative Education Plans via Remote Learning

Lockland teachers (K-12) have been asked to prepare for the prospect of potential school closure. While we know that students may have limited access to technology and wifi, we will be sharing resources, activities and assignments that can be posted on our district web page for all to access as needed. Hard copies of materials will also be taken home by all students on Monday, March 16, 2020.  Additionally, all students in grades K-12 will be permitted to take up to four books home on Monday from our libraries.

Phone Calls

Our school office will be open from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17 through Friday, April 3 to take phone calls. Please call (513) 563-5000. For health reasons, parents will not be buzzed in for face-to-face interaction.

Teacher Availability

Teachers will be available via email each day from 8:00-3:00 p.m. from Tuesday, March 17, 2020 through April 3, 2020.

Food Service

Our students will be fed breakfast and lunch during the closure. Students will go home with five days of breakfast and lunch on Monday, March 16, 2020 at the end of the school day.  Students/families will be able to pick up five breakfast/lunch meals on Monday, March 23, 2020 and Monday, March 30, 2020 between the hours of 11:00-12:00pm at Door #13 on the playground.

Deep Cleaning

We have arranged for the sanitation of all surfaces in the school beginning on Friday, March 13, and this will continue for the duration of the time that the schools are closed.
